One Weird Tip to Improve Your SEO Rankings

By September 28, 2019March 19th, 2020Search Engine Optimization

I’ll just get straight to the point. The Tip is this:

In WordPress, be careful what services you ping.

If you don’t know what I am talking about, then go to your WordPress blog, and go to settingsàwriting, and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page. You should see the heading “Update Services.” So far so good? In the textbox below that, you should see links similar to this one: http://rpc.pingomatic.com/

These are the sites and services that WordPress automatically alert whenever you publish a new post. In the past, it was beneficial to have ping a bunch of servers and sites to alert them that new content has been published on your blog; however, that no longer seems to be the case, for some odd, strange reason. The only thing I can think of is that Google might find your content spammy if you are alerting tons of servers of your new content, especially servers with foreign domain extensions like yoursite.co.uk, etc.

So if you added them manually, please remove them all except the default one, pingomatic.

This one change will most likely help your rankings if you lost them in recent Penguin and Panda updates, or it may help you if you are just starting out.

The Google algorithm is said to change basically every day, and I think the formula is still to write the best content you can, to focus on humans instead of bots, and ethically build links as much as you can-ideally you want your readers to share your content too, so make it shareable.
